My name is Michael Johnson and I am a senior instructor as Shukokai Karate Dojos. I have been training in karate for over 15 years and have been instructing for over 4 years now. I have a bachelor in educational studies and enjoy teaching children. There is nothing like the feeling of seeing a child finally complete a technique that has been elusive for them for so long.
I have been given the opportunity to run karate classes out of the Casey Arc replacing Sensei Neil. I am really looking forward to meeting you all and hoping that we will be a great fit for each other and you will continue your karate journey with me and the whole Shukokai karate dojos family
Shukokai karate has been in the City of Casey for 8 years and before that was part of Kimekai karate since 2006 under the tutelage of Sensei Darryl Thornton. Sensei Darryl is a State sparring coach and through our affiliations we also have direct access to other State and Australian International coaches. We are a family friendly club and in the last 5 years we have grown from 1 club of approximately 300 students to 5 clubs (now 6) with over 700 members (pre covid). We were also able to innovate during COVID times with online platforms to continue customer engagement and activity!
I have put together a list of any questions you may have below that will hopefully answer any questions you have.
What type of Karate discipline do you teach? Will my child learn the same skills that they were previously learning?
Shukokai is a different style of karate, however the fundamentals are very similar if not the same and you will find there is a fair amount of cross over. Your child will only build on the skills that they were taught under their previous instructor.
Do you close for School Holidays.
Shukokai karate dojos is open for 50 weeks of the year. We close for a 2 week period over the Christmas – New Year period. We do however need to close occasionally for a day or two due to Instructor training if we cannot find enough replacement instructors during this time. You will be notified by email, SMS, our Facebook page and member app if this happens.
What will happen to our memberships? Will our price increase?
Casey ARC will no longer be debiting you for your child’s classes. You will need to arrange to sign up on a membership with us directly and we will advise Casey ARC to cancel your existing debit with them. Your fees will remain consistent at your current membership price for 2 years.
How often do you conduct gradings?
Gradings are held every 3 months usually the middle of the month. We will communicate with parents via e-mail, Facebook members page, Club members app on the phone and sometimes SMS to advise of grading dates and important term information.
Do you have a session so that we can find out more about your club?
We will be holding a meet and greet session on December the 18th at the following times:
3 – 6 year olds – 4:30 – 5:00pm
7 – 12 year olds 5:30 – 6:15pm
Teens and Adults 6:45 – 7:30pm
When will classes commence?
All full classes will commence on 4th January 2021.
How do I know what class to book my child into?
Once you have made contact with us, we will send sign up links with the appropriate age groups to make this experience as easy as possible.
Where will my child's classes be held?
We are currently in negations with Casey ARC management to relocate classes for the duration of roofing works to an alternate suitable location. However primarily, when Casey ARC reopens classes will be held in the childcare room as previously conducted
Will my child lose their belt?
No your child will keep their current rank. They have earned it. They will however have to be bought in line with our current syllabus, but this will be done in a staged approach.
